I performed once again at the Denver, Atlanta and Pleasanton Flyfishing shows. I got to finally not only met but had Chris Santella join me for a lunch gig at the Denver Show. I had been hearing about Chris and have traded emails over the years but never got to meet him. Along with his award winning writing, he’s a brother in arms who has combined flyfishing with music. His band Catch and Release is based out of Portland, Or. His claim to fame has been his “Fifty Places to Fish Before You Die”. I just finished his latest book, “The Tug is the Drug” which is is primarily a collection of articles that previously appeared in the New York Times, so the quality of writing is superb. It is really more of a travelogue, than a collection of stories chronicling the authors experience fishing for a variety of species, under various conditions and locales. I highly recommend this easy read book.
At the Pleasanton Show my good friend and colleague, Jeff Currier was up to his usual banjo sharpie art. This time his idea was “Saltwater”, he did a great Tarpon and Bonefish on my oversized Cello Banjo Head. He is currently in Mauritius in the Indian Ocean and should be back to an internet link and civilization by Aprill 21st. You can read all about it at his blog at JeffCurrier.com. Jeff and Granny have always been great to hang out with at the shows over the years. I met him back in the 90’s when he managed Jack Dennis’s shop. He is a great speaker and is the most traveled fly fisher in the world with more species on a fly rod than anyone! His presentations are always very informative and entertaining. His calm charm and unassuming manner make him a crowd favorite.
